Inquisitor Allies

Now here's a thorny issue; Inquisitor Henchmen. I had always planned to take a pure Grey Knights army from the new codex, no weak willed and flimsy mortals getting in the way of my awesomeness! The problem has arisen when I begrudgingly admitted that they are just

=][=SO

=][=DAMN

=][=GOOD!

According to leaks and rumours that is :p

Henchmen squads are cheap, and capable of some crazy powerful shooting and combat. Units can consist of up to 12 models (fitting perfectly in a Chimera) with no limitations (currently) on the number of each type of man, nor are there limits on how many many can take upgrades.

For example, warrior acolytes come basic at 4 points a model. They're underwhelming men with 5+ saves and las pistol/ sword loads outs. But any (and all of them) can be given a plasma gun or melta gun for 10 points. I can get a unit with 12 plasma guns in it for 168 point? Yup!

Don't forget, if going for an Inquisitor theme then you're pretty much going to have to take Inquisitor Coteaz as a Special character so that you can take henchmen squads as troops, but he's a pretty decent HQ choice and only comes in around 100 points so that's a bargain. What this means though is that for 1000 points you can take 72 troops all with plasma guns, wow!

Happily though you don't have to take every model in a henchmen group the same, and there's a whole variety of men and effective groupings you can take, here's a few:

jokaero - Ape like bests which will be popular in many units. They upgrade all the units in its squad with a random bonus, anything from and extra 12" range on their guns to 5++ saves for every model. As well as being able to fire its own digital weapon with the profile of either a lascannon, multimelta or heavy flamer. Now they're quite pricey at 35 points, but are definitely going to feature in alot of Inquisitor lists due to them being the only way to get heavy anti-tank weapons on infantry.

Plasma Spam - as above

Melta Spam - as above.

Psykers - these guys get a power which gets stronger the more of them you have. So 4 psykers casting causes a 36" S7 AP3 Large Blast attack! for 40 points total. Wowzors, especially as when firing from a Chimera they only use up one fire point! However should they suffer perils... they all die :(

Acho-flagelents - for 15 points you get a FNP model with 4 str5 attacks. Ouchie!

Crusaders - The big dogs everyone's talking about, Storm Shields and Power Weapons... 15 points. BANG TIDY!

you can easily get a mix of these in a Chimera for well under 250 points. This means we'll be seeing some very large and effective Inquisitor forces. Not forgetting that these forces can still use some heavy hitting Grey Knight units! Think what 3 DreadKnights back by plasma gun, meltagun, lascannon weilding tank-platforms will do!
